It's a girl!!!

Woo hoo!

I'm going to try to be a *lot* better about documenting things this time around. We just found out that it's a girl, and she measures 20 weeks and 2 days, which is great because she's 20 weeks and 2 days. :) So everything is right on target. No names picked out yet. But I'll post when they're there!

Daddy...

Joshua gave me a book this morning and said, "You read that book and I'll read this book" and he sat next to me and I started turning the pages of my book and he opened his up... after a minute he said, "daddy, can you teach me how to read this book?"

so I showed him how words were made up of letters and we took one of the words in the title - "so" -- with an "ess" sound and an "oh" sound (for letters that sound like the names) and we put them together and got "so" -- I dunno if he got it or not.. but he will. Pretty awesome nonetheless.

Where's my hasenfeffer?

I'm always making Joshua nuts with references to Hasenfeffer (I'll save that for another entry)... earlier tonight after such an event, I told him what it was: "German Rabbit Stew" -- and he tried to repeat it, as he does with something new, but it ended up coming out as "Bunny Rabbit Germ" -- after quite a laugh, I told him that was close enough. Bunny rabbit germs... no wonder he always hates it when I bring it up!

Update: Thursday morning I was talking to him about hasenfeffer again... I said, "it's a bunny rabbit germ, right?"... he pondered for a moment and then replied, "I don't know whats you're saying" :) I told him that was just fine...

Funny Sayings...

Joshua was playing with his Play Doh when his mom heard "aw, man, that's just great" sounding really bummed -- she asked what was wrong.. he said his circle broke. He was using it in the right context. :)

Daylight Savings...

It's this weekend! Saturday, October 29th, don't forget to set your clocks back an hour (you know, Fall Back and all that?)

Kids say the darndest things...

When I opened Joshua's door today, before I even got a word out, he said, "my nose is full of boogers."

I forgot...

When I got Joshua up this morning, I asked him if he slept good, and he told me "yes" (as he usually, but not always, does)... he said he needed a shirt on as we were putting his shirt on and he said, "I forgot to be cold" -- not entirely sure what he was referring to, but I thought it was pretty funny.

Momma's coming to get me...

When Joshua was in the nursery at church the other day, he tried to leave and Jerry (the man who was watching him and later relayed the story) told him that he had to wait for momma to come get him. He asked, "momma is coming to get me?" and Jerry responded, "well, momma or daddy will come to get you." At which point Joshua informed him, "no... Momma's coming to get me. Daddy's playing guitar." Apparently he'd seen me playing guitar when they came in before he went to the toddler room... so he knew I was busy and that momma would be coming to get him. Pretty funny.

His Mother!

It was really nice yesterday, so we were taking a walk around the neighborhood... in the subdivision across the way, we started a game of taking turns kicking a small rock Joshua had found. He would kick it and say "your turn!" and then I'd kick it, and he'd say "momma's turn!" and she'd kick it and he'd say "my turn!" and we did this for at least 10 or 15 minutes...

As we were getting closer back to home, he decided he was done with the rock. So he threw it down. I suspected he might want it again in a few minutes, so I tried to pick it back up without him seeing it, but of course, he noticed. So he was unhappy, and I threw it down on the ground.

We walked about 5 more feet and he started saying "his mother! his mother!" and then he turned around and started looking for the rock and said, "where's my rock?" I went over and got it and took it to him and we saw what was going on. He took and walked over to the drainage ditch on the side of the road and very carefully placed his small rock on top of one of the very large rocks that surrounded the ditch. He was taking the rock back to "his mother." :) Way too cute, I tell ya.

After that, we walked on, and he seemed proud of a job well done.

Opening it up...

At least for the time being, I'm going to go ahead and remove the restriction since only like 3 people have logged on (that I can tell, anyway) to read this... and I know some people have had problems and it's in beta, etc etc.

The reason I "locked it down" in the first place is primarily because the original blog at wound up on Google, and all of the pictures were showing up in Google Images and all that.. and I guess that's all fine and well if you want that, but I was a little creeped out by my son in a cat costume on Google Images. No thanks.

Anyway, I don't think that'll be an issue here... hopefully not, anyway, though Blogger is powered by google, this blog is set to not show up anywhere besides to the people I send it to. So we'll see.

I've also changed it so that anyone can post comments. I was going to do word-verification, but I know that might pose an issue for people, so I've scrapped it for the time being. I'll change that later if commercial spam starts invading my comments.

I had bread for lunch...

Joshua was wearing his lunch on his shirt today when I picked him up... I had a sneaking suspicion, but I thought I'd ask anyway... the conversation went like this:

"what did you have for lunch?"
"bread"
"ummm... did you have a sandwich?"
"and jelly... and butter... peanut butter"

That's what I suspected...

It's on your seatbelt!

4 words you never really want to hear from the backseat as you're cruising down the street... not really being able to turn around at the time... thankfully, he was prompt and able to answer "what is on my seatbelt?" -- "the light!"

The sun had been in his eyes, but we turned, and so now it was on my seatbelt... I was pretty relieved it wasn't the creator of the web I'd wiped away from my windshield to my dashboard... I'm not just super fond of spiders in the first place, and I remember once when I was cruising down the road and one of those tiny little jumping spiders popped up on top of the dashboard right in front of me... I didn't have a wreck or anything, but I was *reeeeeal* nervous til I stopped somewhere and killed him. Having also seen more Brown Recluse spiders in the last few years than anyone ever should... I was thankful it was just the light.

Which side?

Joshua and I were walking to the car in the driveway, and he didn't seem to want to go in the door I'd opened for him. I asked him if he wanted to go around to the other side and he said, "yeah, other side" so I told him to go around and I'd go open the door. I walked around the car to find him stopped halfway, dead in his tracks. I moved closer to the door to find a really big (like 3" long) horsefly on the door. Joshua, being the observant little man he is, wasn't quite sure what to do, so he'd just stopped and was staring at it from a safe distance.

So I walked over and kicked it, and it fell onto the ground buzzing where I proceed to step on it. Then I opened the door and asked him to get in. No response. "Do you want to get in on the other side?" ... and the expected response... "yeah, other side" :-)

I'm funny....

The other night I was giving Joshua a bath (the first half of which consists of him just playing in the water for a while), and he had Tweety Bird in a little plastic boat and he was saying in a real high pitched voice "hold on... here we go!" and he would put them into the water... he did this several times. I finally said, "you're funny..."

He never missed a beat, never looked up... his response? "I'm funny... yep."

I 'bout peed myself.

Welcome to the blog...

If you're here, you're someone we know or were invited by someone we know. So, welcome! This will be the new place we put pictures and things done, said, and going on with us all.
